Each lot as shown on the Official Map of the Borough of Avalon shall be numbered and the buildings erected on the front of such lots shall bear the same numbers. The Tax Assessor shall designate such numbers in accordance with this section.
a. 
Lots fronting on the boardwalk, avenues and drives shall be given numbers beginning with the number of the lowest numbered streets adjacent to them, and the first lot on the ocean side of the avenues and drives and abutting on the numbered streets shall bear the number of the street followed by two ciphers, and the lot adjoining shall be numbered with the number of the numbered street followed by a cipher and number two and each lot thereafter on the same side of avenues and drives shall be numbered with consecutive even numbers until the next numbered street is reached. The first lots on the channel sides of the avenues or drives and abutting on the numbered streets shall bear the number of the street followed by a cipher and the number one and the lot adjoining shall be numbered with the number of the numbered street followed by a cipher and the number three and thereafter with consecutive odd numbers until the next numbered street is reached.
b. 
Lots fronting on numbered streets west of Avalon Avenue shall be numbered in numerical order with odd and even numbers, beginning at Avalon Avenue, with even numbers on the north sides of streets and odd numbers on the south sides of streets; and running west from Avalon Avenue to First Avenue. The numbers shall start from numbers one and two on their respective sides, and continue in odd and even numbers, respectively, until First Avenue; and between First Avenue and Second Avenue, the numbers shall be likewise used, beginning with one hundred one (101) and one hundred two (102) and be continued successively until Second Avenue is reached; and between Second Avenue and Third Avenue, the numbers shall be likewise used beginning with two hundred one (201) and two hundred two (202) and be continued successively until Third Avenue is reached; and west of Third Avenue, the numbers shall be likewise used, beginning at three hundred one (301) and three hundred two (302) and be continued successively to the channel.
It shall be the duty of every property owner to display in such manner so that it may be plainly visible to the public on the front portion of each and every building owned by him, located on any public street, avenue or highway within the Borough, the number assigned to such premises by the terms of this section, and it shall be the duty of such property owner to continue at all times to display such number. Numbers shall be at least three inches high in size.
In the event that any building shall be located or situated on more than one lot of land, then and in such case the owner of such property may use all of the numbers assigned hereby to the premises or, at his option, may use the highest number assigned thereto.
