Any person desiring to change the name of any public street or private
lane within the Township of Unity, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania,
shall submit an application for same to the Township Secretary. Such
application shall be in the form approved by the Board of Supervisors
of the Township of Unity as set forth hereafter and shall contain,
at least, the following information:
For public streets, the application shall be signed by 100% of the
title/record owners of property abutting the street for which the
name change is requested.
For private lanes, the application must be signed by 51% of the title/record
owners of property abutting the lane for which the name change is
requested.
The completed application shall be filed with the Township Engineer
who shall review the completed application for compliance with this
article. The Township will reject any application which does not comply
with the requirements of this article.
The proposed new names shall be submitted by the Township Engineer
to the Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety for consideration
and approval to ensure that the same are not duplicative of other
names in the county system.
Upon receipt of a properly completed and authenticated application
for change of street or lane name, the Board of Supervisors shall
review same and, at the Board's sole discretion:
In the event of approval, and prior to notice to the aforesaid Department
of Public Safety, the applicants shall make payment to the Township
of $250 to cover the cost of those charges imposed or assessed by
the Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety upon the Township
associated with processing and administering the change in name.
In the event of approval, and prior to notice to the aforesaid Department
of Public Safety, the applicants shall make payment to the Township
of $50 to cover the actual costs of the Township in obtaining and
replacing street signs.
