A. 
Declaration Of Policy. The Board of Aldermen of Merriam Woods hereby declares that it is in the best interest of the City to establish a Police Department for the purposes of upholding all Federal, State, and local ordinances. This Section shall be deemed an exercise of the Police powers of the City of Merriam Woods for the protection of the public welfare, prosperity, health, and peace of the people of Merriam Woods, Missouri.
B. 
Establishment.
1. 
Therefore, the Board of Aldermen hereby establishes the Merriam Woods Police Department. The Merriam Woods Police Department shall be charged with the duty of upholding all Federal, State, and local ordinances within the City limits of the City of Merriam Woods.
2. 
The Board of Aldermen of the City of Merriam Woods shall appoint a Chief of Police for the Merriam Woods Police Department. The Police Chief shall hold his/her office at the pleasure of the Board of Aldermen and may be discharged by the Board of Aldermen for misconduct, insubordination, violation of a written policy or a felony committed in accordance with State Statute.
3. 
The Board of Aldermen of the City of Merriam Woods shall regulate the duties of the Chief of Police and any other officer employed by the City as Police Officers. The Chief of Police shall promulgate all internal rules and regulations to be followed by Police Officers employed by the City. Said rules and regulations shall be reviewed and approved by the Board of Aldermen of Merriam Woods City and said rules and regulations may be amended by the Board of Aldermen at their discretion.
