Pursuant to Section 11 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act (P.L. 1983 c. 383), the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code shall be locally enforced in the Township of Greenwich through a shared service with the City of Bridgeton with which the Township has entered into a Shared Services Agreement effective January 1, 2014, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:65-1 et seq., to be the local enforcing agency.

The Fire Prevention Bureau of the City of Bridgeton shall be the local enforcement agency with the Township of Greenwich by virtue of a Shared Services Agreement pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:651 et seq. to be the local enforcing agency.

The local enforcement agency shall enforce Uniform Fire Safety Act and the codes and regulations adopted under it in all buildings, structures and premises within the established boundaries of the Township, other than owner-occupied one-family and two-family dwellings used exclusively for dwelling purposes of buildings, structures and premises owned by the Federal Government, interstate agencies or the State of New Jersey. The local enforcement agency shall faithfully comply with the requirements of the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the Uniform Fire Code as these authorities and directives may be from time to time updated.

The local enforcing agency shall be under the direct supervision of the Fire Official who reports to the Chief of the Bridgeton Fire Department. In the event the Fire Official is also the same individual serving as the Chief of the Bridgeton Fire Department, then the Fire Official shall report to the Deputy Chief of the Bridgeton Fire Department.

Pursuant to Section 15 and 17 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act, any person aggrieved by any Order of the local enforcement agency shall have the right to appeal to the Cumberland County Board of Construction Appeals.

All inspection and permit provisions in the Uniform Fire Code (N.J.A.C. 5:70) are adopted by reference and incorporated without changes as set for at length herein. The Bureau of Fire Prevention established by the City of Bridgeton shall carry out periodic inspections of life hazard uses required under the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of the New Jersey DCA.
Each use that is classified as a life hazard under N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.4 shall be registered with the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety. A late registration penalty shall accrue on February 1 of each year.

a. 
In addition to the registrations required by the Uniform Fire Code, those non-life hazard uses shall register with the Bureau of Fire Prevention that may be specified by the Bridgeton City Code as it may be updated from time to time. The owner of the premises and/or operator of the non-life-hazard use shall submit a completed registration form and pay the requisite fee prior to commencing the operation of the non-life hazard use. In addition to the registration fee, if a non-life-hazard use is not so registered prior to commencing operation the non-life hazard shall thereafter be registered annually during the month of January. These uses shall be inspected once per year and shall pay an annual fee as set forth in the City of Bridgeton Ordinance, Chapter 149, Fees, Article II, as such may be amended from time to time. Residential uses shall be inspected and charged a fee only upon change of tenant.
b. 
Uses required to register with the State as life hazard uses shall not be required to register under this Section.
c. 
In the discretion of the Fire Official, vacant buildings will be charged and inspected according to the previous use of the building.
d. 
All residential uses except R-A uses shall be inspected in the common areas only.

The application fees for the permits listed in N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.9 shall be as per the Code of the City of Bridgeton, Section 149-15 as same may be updated from time to time.
b. 
The cost issuance of a Certificate of Fire Code Status shall be as set forth in the City of Bridgeton Code, Chapter 149, Fees, Article II as such may be amended from time to time.
c. 
Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms shall be inspected by the Bridgeton Fire Prevention Bureau or its representative of the City of Bridgeton, and Certificates of Approval with respect to the operation thereof shall be issued by the same under the subject Shared Services Agreement. The fee shall be as per the current City of Bridgeton Ordinance as such may be updated from time to time.

An application for variance from the requirements of State Law shall be filed in writing pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:27D-200 as may be updated from time to time and such shall be consonant with applicable State Regulations and applications are to be administered by the Bridgeton Fire Prevention Bureau.

Enforcement, violations and penalties shall be in accordance with the City of Bridgeton Ordinance, as such may be amended from time to time.

Unless another penalty is provided by law, any person, firm or corporation violating this Section shall be subject to a monetary penalty as issued by the Fire Official of the Bridgeton Bureau of Fire Prevention and liable to the penalty, upon conviction, stated in Chapter 1, Section 1-5, General Penalty.
