The title of this article shall be "An Ordinance Establishing a Method for the Election of the School Board for the County of Amelia, Virginia."
The following words as used in this article shall have the following meanings:
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors for the County of Amelia, Virginia.
SCHOOL BOARD
The School Board for the County of Amelia, Virginia.
The School Board shall consist of five members, who shall be elected from the same County election districts as are the members of the Board of Supervisors. The election districts for the School Board shall be coterminous with the election districts for the Board of Supervisors. The election for a School Board member for any election district shall be held simultaneously with the election for a member of the Board of Supervisors for that election district.
The terms of the members of the School Board shall be the same as the terms of the members of the Board of Supervisors. The terms of office for elected School Board members shall commence on January 1 following their election.
On December 31 following the first election of School Board members, the terms of office of the School Board in office through appointment shall expire and the School Board selection commission shall be abolished.
A vacancy in the office of School Board member shall be filled pursuant to the provisions of the general laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or article of this article be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason, the remainder thereof shall not be affected thereby and shall remain in full force and effect.
