Pursuant to Section 11 of the Uniform Fire Safety
Act (P.L. 1983, c. 383), the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code shall be locally enforced
in the Township of Union, in the County of Union.
The local enforcement agency shall enforce the
Uniform Fire Safety Act and the codes and regulations adopted under it in all
buildings, structures and premises within the established boundaries
of the Township of Union, in the County of Union, State of New Jersey,
except owner-occupied buildings used exclusively for dwelling purposes
and containing fewer than three dwelling units, and shall faithfully
comply with the requirements of the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the
Uniform Fire Code.
The local enforcing agency established by §
307-2 of this article shall carry out the periodic inspections of life-hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of Community Affairs.

A. The local enforcing agency established by §
307-2 of this article shall be a part of the Township of Union Fire Department and shall be under the direct supervision and control of the Fire Official, who is a sworn, uniformed member of the Township of Union Fire Department, who reports to the Chief of the Department, and shall be comprised of the membership of the Bureau of Fire Prevention and such other sworn officers and members as are certified by the Bureau of Fire Safety to conduct such work.
B. The Bureau of
Fire Prevention established by this article shall be under the direct
control of the Chief of the Fire Department and shall be comprised
of an officer of the Fire Department, who shall be known as "Chief
Inspector of the Fire Prevention Bureau." The Chief of the Fire Department
shall appoint such other members as needed to carry out the functions
of this Bureau.
Pursuant to Sections 15 and 17 of the Uniform
Fire Safety Act, any person aggrieved by an order of the local enforcement
agency shall have the right to appeal to the Construction Board of
Appeals of the Township of Union.
