This article is adopted pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal
Home Rule Law § 10 of the State of New York.
The term of office of the elected Town Council Person shall
be four years. Such four years shall commence as the first day of
January, following the first biennial town election as which the persons
are elected to such offices. Thereafter, the Town Council Persons
shall be elected for four years. The four-year term provided by this
section shall also apply to the persons elected to such office at
the election to be held November 2, 2021.
This article is adopted subject to a mandatory referendum and
shall be submitted for approval of qualified voters of the Town of
Ellicott at the biennial to be held on November 2, 2021. A proposition
in the following form shall be included on the ballot at such biennial
town election and increased terms of office shall not take effect
unless such proposition is approved by a majority of the qualified
voters voting thereon:
"Shall Local Law No. 1 of the year 2021 entitled A Local Law
Increasing the Term of Office of Town Council Persons from 2 years
to 4 years be approved?"
This article shall supersede Town Law 24 relating to the term
of office for Town Council Persons of the Town of Ellicott.
This article shall become effective immediately upon being filed
in the Office of Secretary of State after approval by the Town qualified
voters.
