Editor’s note(s)–Ordinance O-15-007 adopted at a general election held May 9, 2015, amended Art. I in its entirety to read as herein set out. Former Art. I, secs. 1–4, pertained to similar subject matter, and derived from the original Charter; an ordinance adopted Feb. 23, 1970, sec. 1; an amendment adopted May 6, 1989, sec. 9; and an amendment adopted May 4, 1991, sec. 1.
The inhabitants of the City of Brenham, in Washington County,
Texas, as the boundaries and limits in said City now are or may hereafter
be established, shall be and are hereby constituted a body politic
and corporate by the name of the City of Brenham and as such shall
have perpetual succession, may use a corporate seal and sue and be
sued.

The City Council shall have the power by ordinance to establish
the boundary limits of the City of Brenham; and to provide for the
alterations and extension of said boundary limits, the annexation
of additional territory to the City and the detachment or disannexation
of territory, with or without the consent of the owners and inhabitants
of the territory annexed, detached or disannexed. The boundaries of
the City shall be those established by ordinance of the City Council
enacted in accordance with the procedures provided for in applicable
federal, state or other law. The City Secretary shall keep a correct
and complete description of the City boundaries, indicating all annexations,
detachments and disannexations.
