A military service credit is granted to city employees covered under the firefighters’ relief and retirement fund pursuant to the following requirements:
(1) 
Active firefighters with at least six (6) months of active duty federal military service may buy credit for such service if it accrued prior to employment with the city. To buy credit for this service, active firefighters must contribute fifteen dollars ($15.00) for each month of military service to the firefighters’ relief and retirement fund. If the active firefighter makes this contribution, the city will contribute thirty dollars ($30.00) for each month of military service to the fund.

The amount of military service which may be purchased will be subject to the following schedule:

The maximum amount of firefighters’ relief and retirement fund service credit which may be purchased will be five (5) months of service credit.
(3) 
Credit for active duty federal military service occurring after the active firefighter was employed by the city shall be governed by the provisions of article 6243e, section 10(c)(1), Vernon’s Texas Civil Statutes (Texas Local Fire Fighters Retirement Act).

(a) 
Starting January 1, 2020, the city will contribute to the account of each member of the city firefighters’ relief and retirement fund at a rate which is equal to 26% of the active member’s wages. Each active member of the city firefighters’ relief and retirement fund will contribute 16% of the member’s wages.
(b) 
Such amount shall be contributed on a monthly basis to the city firefighters’ relief and retirement fund.
(c) 
This section shall be interpreted to conform with state law regarding the firefighters’ relief and retirement fund.
