Any person who is a relative of an elected official, Township Administrator, or a director/department head shall not be appointed, hired, employed or permitted to work for the Township in any paid position for which a civil service examination is not required for employment.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
RELATIVE
An individual's spouse, civil union partner, domestic partner, parent, child, sibling, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, a grandparent, grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, stepparent, stepchild, stepbrother, stepsister, half-brother, or half-sister of the individual or the individual's spouse, civil union partner, or domestic partner, whether the relative is related to the individual or the individual's spouse, civil union partner, or domestic partner by blood, marriage, or adoption.
The nepotism policy shall not apply to a part-time seasonal employee in any department and to a volunteer nonpaid appointee to any position within Township government.
No elected official, Township Administrator or director/department head may participate in the promotion or hiring process of a relative in either the classified or unclassified service.
This chapter shall apply prospectively from the effective date of adoption.
