There
shall be a Township Public Defender of and for the Township who shall
be an attorney at law of the State of New Jersey and who shall be
appointed by a majority vote of the members of the Township Committee.
The term
of the Township Public Defender shall begin on the first day of January
of the year of appointment and shall continue for a period of one
year or until such time as the Public Defender's successor has been
appointed and qualified.
The Township
Public Defender shall defend individuals as assigned by the Municipal
Court and shall assume any and all duties as may, from time to time,
be assigned to the office of the Township Public Defender by charter,
administrative code, police power or rule or regulation adopted or
promulgated by the Township Committee.
The Township Public Defender shall represent those individuals who are qualified and apply for representation. A person applying for representation by the Township Public Defender shall pay an application fee as set forth in Chapter 260, Fee Schedule, of the Code of the Township of Bordentown.
