[Adopted as Ch. 2.48 of the 2003 Municipal Code]
A. 
There shall be a Township Public Defender of and for the Township who shall be an attorney at law of the State of New Jersey and who shall be appointed by a majority vote of the members of the Township Committee.
B. 
The term of the Township Public Defender shall begin on the first day of January of the year of appointment and shall continue for a period of one year or until such time as the Public Defender's successor has been appointed and qualified.
C. 
The Township Public Defender shall defend individuals as assigned by the Municipal Court and shall assume any and all duties as may, from time to time, be assigned to the office of the Township Public Defender by charter, administrative code, police power or rule or regulation adopted or promulgated by the Township Committee.
D. 
The Township Public Defender shall represent those individuals who are qualified and apply for representation. A person applying for representation by the Township Public Defender shall pay an application fee as set forth in Chapter 260, Fee Schedule, of the Code of the Township of Bordentown. The Municipal Court may waive the application fee in whole or in part if the Court determines in its discretion that the application fee represents an unreasonable burden on the person seeking representation.
