A. General
penalties. Every person convicted of a traffic infraction for a violation
of any provision of this chapter shall be punishable as follows: for
a first conviction, a fine of not more than $150 or imprisonment for
not more than 15 days, or both; for a conviction of a second violation,
both of which were committed within a period of 18 months, a fine
of not more than $225 or imprisonment for not more than 45 days, or
both; upon a conviction of a third or subsequent violation, all of
which were committed within a period of 18 months, a fine of not more
than $300 or by imprisonment for not more than 90 days, or both.
B. Penalties for parking violations. Every person convicted for violation
of a parking regulation contained in this chapter shall be punished
by a fine in an amount determined by the court, but in no event more
than $750. In the event that such person fails to appear on or before
the designated return date of an appearance ticket issued for such
violation, said fine may be increased by an amount to be determined
by the court, but not to exceed an additional $150 for each period
of 30 days, or part thereof, after such return date. The Traffic Violations
Bureau of the Village of Great Neck Estates is authorized to establish
fines for violations of traffic laws, ordinances, rules and regulations,
other than the traffic infraction known as "speeding" or a misdemeanor
or felony, and penalties for late appearance in response to charges
of such violations, all to the extent permitted by General Municipal
Law § 371, where the person charged with such violations
pleads guilty to such violations as permitted by law, provided that
the fines and penalties so established shall not exceed the fines
and penalties otherwise authorized by this section.
