Shooting, gaming, hunting and the discharging or firing of any gun, pistol or other weapon or firearm in any part of the Village of Southampton within 500 feet of any dwelling or building occupied by any person as a dwelling, or on any street or highway or within 500 feet of any street or highway, are hereby prohibited, except as provided in §
57-3. For the purpose of this chapter, a weapon or firearm shall include any pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun, air gun, bow and arrow or crossbow, which discharges a bullet, cartridge, shell, shot, arrow, bolt or other missile propelled by the burning or explosion of gunpowder, by high pressure from pumping or other means, by a spring which is set by a cocking operation or by the application and release of tension or pressure to a bowstring attached to such weapon or instrument.
The provisions of this chapter shall not be construed as applying
to any act of self-defense or in the discharge of official duty, or
to any act of any owner of real property while upon his said property
or to any act of any other person upon such property with the consent
of the owner thereto previously given.
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to the discharge
or firing of a bow and arrow by any person who has obtained the appropriate
permits to hunt deer by the New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation, including persons shooting nuisance and depredating
deer pursuant to a nuisance deer permit, provided that in all events,
no person shall discharge or fire a bow and arrow:
A. So that the arrow passes over any part of a public highway;
B. Within 150 feet of any school, playground, church or commercial building
or structure in occupation or use; or
C. Within 150 feet of a dwelling, farm building or structure in occupation
or use unless you own it, lease it, are an immediate member of the
family, an employee, or have the owner's written consent.

Any person who violates this chapter or fails to comply with any of its requirements shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to the penalties provided in Article
II of Chapter
1 of the Code of the Village of Southampton.
