A.
A Police Department is hereby established in and for the Township of South Hackensack.
B.
The Police Department shall consist of a Chief of Police, a Deputy Chief, two Captains of Police, two Lieutenants, five Sergeants and such other patrolpersons as the Township Committee may deem necessary and special police officers as provided by this chapter.

D.
All appointees shall be on probation for a term not exceeding three months from the date of appointment, at the end of which probationary term their appointment may be revoked at pleasure by resolution of the Township Committee.
E.
A patrolperson shall rank below a Sergeant; a Sergeant shall rank below a Lieutenant; a Lieutenant shall rank below a Captain; the Captain shall rank below the Deputy Chief and the Deputy Chief shall rank below the Chief. In the event of a vacancy in the office of Chief of Police, the Deputy Chief shall assume the duties of Chief and the command of the department until that vacancy is filled. Any officer inferior to another officer shall obey and perform any and all orders and directions of any officer superior to him or her.
