The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
MOTORBOAT
Includes any vessel propelled in whole or in part by mechanical means, either inboard or outboard, and using a motor powered by gasoline, diesel fuel, naphtha, kerosene, steam or fuel oil.
WATER or WATERS
Includes all lakes, rivers, streams, ponds or other bodies of water located within or partly within the boundaries of the Town.
No motorboat, while being operated upon waters within the boundaries of the Town, shall pass closer than a distance of 150 feet to a public bathing area on the shores of the waters of the Town.
No motorboat shall be operated in a reckless fashion upon the waters within the boundaries of the Town, either as to speed or conduct of operations.
Motorboat operators shall use due and reasonable care in passing close to or near other vessels and shall slow to a reasonable and safe speed when passing rowboats, canoes, sailboats or other vessels not propelled by mechanical means.
Motorboat operators shall obey lawful directions given to them by any police officer or constable of the Town in the enforcement of the provisions of this article and shall, immediately upon being instructed by any police officer or constable of the Town, desist from any excessive speeding or other reckless practice.
Any person who violates any provision of this article shall be subject to the penalties set forth in Chapter 1, General Provisions, § 1-2, of the Code of the Town of Coventry.
