The office of Township Attorney, heretofore established by the Township
Committee, is hereby created, continued and confirmed, pursuant to N.J.S.A.
40A:9-139. The Township Attorney shall be an attorney at law of the State
of New Jersey in good standing. Such person shall be appointed by the Township
Committee for a term of one year from the date of appointment. If the Township
Attorney is affiliated with a firm of attorneys, the Township Attorney may
be assisted in fulfilling the duties of the office by other attorneys in the
firm who are attorneys at law of New Jersey, and in good standing; said attorneys,
when acting in that capacity, shall be deemed to be acting as Assistant Township
Attorneys. Any vacancy in the office of Township Attorney occurring other
than by expiration of term shall be filled by the Township Committee for the
unexpired portion of the term only.
The Township Attorney shall represent the Township in all legal matters,
except in particular cases where for special reasons, such as potential or
actual conflict of interest, another attorney is employed.
The Township Attorney shall receive compensation based upon a professional
services resolution adopted by the Township Committee and pursuant to budget
appropriations.
