The Board of Health finds that improper handling and preparation of
meat, fish or poultry in Township parks creates a public health concern, not
only for those persons who may consume such food products, but also for the
general public who frequent Township parks and may come into contact with
the remains, residue, or byproducts of such meat, fish, or poultry. The purpose
of this chapter is to protect the public health from health hazards that may
result from the improper handling and preparation of meat, fish or poultry
products in Township parks.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
COOKING APPARATUS
Any fixed or portable, permanent or temporary grill, barbeque pit,
hibachi, stove or similar cooking device, whether privately owned or a fixture
in a Township park.
GRILL READY
Meat, fish or poultry that is either prepackaged or prepared for
cooking prior to being brought to any Township park and that is sized or portioned
in a manner suitable for placing directly on a cooking apparatus, without
the necessity for any further butchering, trimming, shaping, cutting, washing
or forming.
TOWNSHIP PARK
Township-owned land that is open to the public for purposes of active
or passive recreation.
No raw meat, fish or poultry shall be brought to any Township park and
cooked on any cooking apparatus in a Township park unless such meat, fish
or poultry is grill ready.
Any person cooking any meat, fish, or poultry on any fixed or permanent
cooking apparatus in any Township park shall clean such cooking apparatus
with a scraper, brush, or comparable device, so that the cooking apparatus
is left free of any raw, cooked, or partially cooked remnants of any meat,
fish or poultry. In addition, any raw, cooked, or partially cooked remnants
of any meat, fish, or poultry shall be cleaned and removed from any tables,
benches, patios, or other improvements within any Township park where such
foods were cooked or consumed, and disposed of in proper trash receptacles.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall, upon
conviction thereof, pay a fine of not less than $25 and no more than $500
and/or be subject to a term of imprisonment exceeding 90 days, or both. A
separate offense shall be deemed committed on each day during or on which
a violation occurs or continues.
This chapter may be enforced by the Township Sanitarian, Health Officer,
or Police Department.
