Auxiliary fire fighters and civilian employees appointed under the provisions
of this chapter shall not be members of the Department. They shall not be
entitled to participate in the Police and Fire Fighters' Pension Funds
or to receive the benefits of tenure of office as provided in N.J.S.A. 40A:14-17
and 40A:14-19, as amended.
The Township Manager, upon recommendation of the Chief, may appoint
citizens of the township be known as "auxiliary fire fighters" and to serve
as an Auxiliary Fire Department. The services of the Auxiliary Fire Department
may be utilized in such emergencies as the Township Manager may determine
and at such other times as the Township Manager may approve and authorize.
Auxiliary fire fighters shall take the oath of office prescribed for members
of the Department. Auxiliary fire fighters shall wear an authorized badge
at all times while on duty. They shall serve without pay unless otherwise
ordered by the Township Council.
When authorized by the Township Manager, the Chief may employ persons
to work as civilian employees under the direction of the Fire Department.
Such employees shall perform such duties as may be directed by the Chief.
They shall be paid by the township in accordance with the Salary Ordinance.
