[Amended 5-23-2017 by Ord. No. O-17-018]
Any person appointed to the Department shall be first appointed as a probationary patrolman to serve for a probationary period of one year. During such year probationary patrol officers shall obey all the provisions of this chapter and of the Selection Policy of the Department. Probationary patrol officers shall not be entitled to enjoy the benefits of tenure of office as provided in N.J.S.A. 40A:14-128 and 40A:14-147, as amended. At the completion of the probationary period, the Chief shall submit a written report to the Manager, stating in detail the qualifications of the probationary patrol officer for appointment as a regular member of the Department and his or her recommendations as to whether such appointment should be made.
Any deception or attempt at deception by an applicant in his or her application or in any phase of his or her candidacy shall be cause for rejection or for dismissal if discovered after appointment.
Upon appointment as a probationary patrolman or as a regular member of the Department, every appointee shall subscribe to and take the oath of office prescribed by law.
