The Town of Ellington, Connecticut, hereby establishes a Development and Industrial Commission in accordance with § 7-136 of the General Statutes of Connecticut, Revision of 1958.
The Commission shall conduct researches into business and industrial conditions it its municipality, shall seek to coordinate the activities of unofficial bodies organized for such purposes, may advertise and may prepare, print and distribute books, maps, charts and pamphlets which in its judgment will further its official purposes.
Within 30 days after the effective date of this article, the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Ellington shall appoint five members to said Commission, of whom one shall be appointed for a term ending on the first day of July 1961, one for a term ending on the first day of July 1962, one for a term ending on the first day of July 1963, one for a term ending on the first day of July 1964, and one for a term ending on the first day of July 1965, and on or before the first day of July 1961, and annually thereafter, the successors to the members whose terms then expire shall be appointed for terms of five years each. The Board of Selectmen shall designate the Chairman of said Commission. Any vacancy in the membership of the Commission shall be filled for the unexpired portion of the term by the Board of Selectmen. Any member of the Commission shall be removed by the Board of Selectmen for cause and, on request of such member, after public hearing. The members of the Commission shall receive no compensation for their services as such but shall be reimbursed for their necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their official duties.
Not more than a bare majority of said Commission shall be members of the same political party.
