As used in this chapter, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
ABANDONMENT OF CART
The placing of a cart on property other than that belonging
to the supermarket or store which has control over the said cart.
A cart so placed shall be considered to be abandoned.
SHOPPING CART
A cart commonly provided by retail stores and supermarkets
and utilized for the convenience of their patrons.
The Department of Public Works is hereby authorized
to pick up and take into custody any abandoned shopping cart which
may be found in the Township of Burlington.
The Department of Public Works is hereby authorized
to store the said cart at the cost of the owner, lessor or lessee.
The Department of Public Works is directed to
mail a notice to the owner, lessor or lessee whose identification
may appear on a shopping cart. Said notice shall advise the owner,
lessor or lessee that he has a period of 10 days from the date of
mailing of the notice within which application may be made to the
Department of Public Works to recover said cart.
Before a cart is released to the owner, lessor
or lessee of said cart, a charge of $10 shall be paid to the Township
of Burlington per shopping cart to cover the costs of recovery and
administration of this chapter.
