There is hereby created a Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, consisting of 12 persons and two alternates who shall organize themselves in such a manner as is deemed by such Committee to be most appropriate to accomplish its purposes.

The Council shall appoint four persons and two alternates 55 years or over. Appointments shall be for two-year periods, except for the Presidents of AARP and the Wethersfield Senior Citizens Club, which shall be for one-year terms, and the Council shall have authority to make appointments under this section in such manner as will provide for the expiration of two terms on June 30 of each calendar year.

A. 
The Council shall appoint eight members of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee from the following categories:
(1) 
A clergyman selected by the Council from among the clergy of the Town.
(2) 
The Health Director or a member of the medical profession designated by Council.
(3) 
A representative of the Town Social Services Administration designated by the Manager.
(4) 
The Recreation and Parks Director or such other member of the Recreation and Parks Department as the Council may designate.
(5) 
The Executive Director of the Town Housing Authority or a member of such Authority as the Council may designate.
(6) 
The President of the American Association of Retired Persons, Inc., Wethersfield Chapter 1222, or his or her designee, approved by the Council.
(7) 
The President of the Wethersfield Senior Citizens Club, or his or her designee, approved by Council.

(8) 
The Municipal Agent for the Elderly as appointed by the Town Council or the Town Manager.
B. 
The appointments shall be for two-year periods except for the Presidents of AARP and the Wethersfield Senior Citizens Club, which shall be for one-year terms, and the Council shall have authority to make appointments under this section in such manner as will provide for the expiration of four terms on June 30 of each odd-numbered year to include the Municipal Agent of the Elderly and for the expiration of four terms on June 30 of each even-numbered year.

The Senior Citizens Advisory Committee shall conduct inquiries into the needs of senior citizens in the Town. At least once a year, and more often if necessary, the Committee shall report to the Council on the state and lot of older persons in the Town, along with recommendations for programs for consideration by the total community.
