The title of this ordinance is "The Town of
Wilton Ordinance Governing the Appointment of Assistant Town Clerks."
It is recognized that the Town of Wilton should
have at least one Assistant Town Clerk, who shall, in the absence
or inability of the Town Clerk, have all the powers and perform all
the duties of the Town Clerk. This ordinance is enacted to authorize
the Board of Selectmen to appoint Assistant Town Clerks to ensure
the stable operation of the Town Clerk's Office in the event the Town
Clerk is absent or unable to perform the duties and functions of the
Town Clerk.
Section 7-19 of the Connecticut General Statutes,
as amended by Connecticut Public Act 02-137, grants authority to the
Town Clerk to appoint Assistant Town Clerks. Section 7-19 of the Connecticut
General Statutes, as amended by Connecticut Public Act 02-137, also
permits a town, by ordinance, to provide an alternative method for
the appointment of Assistant Town Clerks. This ordinance is intended
to give the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Wilton the authority
to appoint Assistant Town Clerks.
The Board of Selectmen of the Town of Wilton
shall have the authority to appoint one or more Assistant Town Clerks
to perform all the duties of the Town Clerk in the event the Town
Clerk is absent or unable to perform the duties and functions of the
Town Clerk.
This ordinance shall become effective 30 days
after publication in a newspaper having a circulation in the Town
of Wilton.
