Section
6-25 of the Township Code establishes the Division of Fire Safety, which has the responsibility of administering the Uniform Fire Safety Act as the local enforcing agent.

The local enforcing agency shall be the Division
of Fire Safety.
The local enforcing agency shall enforce the
Uniform Fire Safety Act and the codes and regulations adopted under
it in all buildings, structures and premises within the established
boundaries of the Township of Egg Harbor, other than owner-occupied
one- and two-family dwellings, and shall faithfully comply with the
requirements of the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the Uniform Fire Code.
The local enforcing agency established by §
111-2 of this chapter shall carry out the periodic inspections of the life-hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of Community Affairs.
The local enforcing agency established by §
111-2 of this chapter shall be part of the Township of Egg Harbor and shall be under the direct supervision and control of the Fire Official, who shall report to the Egg Harbor Township Committee and who shall work in conjunction with the Egg Harbor Township Fire Department.
Pursuant to Sections 15 and 17 of the Uniform
Fire Safety Act, any person aggrieved by any order of the local enforcing
agency shall have the right to appeal to the Construction Board of
Appeals of Atlantic County.
In addition to the inspections and fees required
pursuant to the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the regulations of the
Department of Community Affairs, the following additional registrations,
fees and inspections shall be required:
A. Type M-1-A:

(1) M-1-A (1): business uses as defined in the Uniform
Fire Code of 500 square feet or less of total leased, rented or owned
gross floor area.
(2) M-1-A (2): mercantile uses as defined in the Uniform
Fire Code of 500 square feet or less of total leased, rented or owned
gross floor area.
B. Type M-2-B:

(1) M-2-B (1): business uses as defined in the Uniform
Fire Code of more than 500 square feet but less than 2,500 square
feet of total leased, rented or owned gross floor area.
(2) M-2-B (2): mercantile uses as defined in the Uniform
Fire Code of more than 500 square feet but less than 2,500 square
feet of total leased, rented or owned gross floor area.
(3) M-2-B (3): storage uses as defined in the Uniform
Fire Code of less than 2,500 square feet of total leased, rented or
owned gross floor area and not defined as a life-hazard use. (Exceptions
are storage areas used exclusively for the running of a business use
included within that gross floor area and storage areas used exclusively
for the office use of a mercantile use included within the gross floor
area.)
C. Type M-3-C:

(1) M-3-C (1): business uses as defined in the Uniform
Fire Code with 2,500 square feet or more but less than 5,000 square
feet of total leased, rented or owned gross floor area.
(2) M-3-C (2): mercantile uses as defined in the Uniform
Fire Code with 2,500 square feet or more but less than 5,000 square
feet of total leased, rented or owned gross floor area.
(3) M-3-C (3): storage uses as defined in the latest edition
of the Uniform Fire Code with 2,500 square feet or more but less than
5,000 square feet of total leased, rented or owned gross floor area
and not defined as a life-hazard use.
D. Type M-4-D:
(1) M-4-D (1): business uses as defined in the latest
edition of the Uniform Fire Code with 5,000 square feet or more but
less than 7,500 square feet of total leased, rented or owned gross
floor area.

(2) M-4-D (2): mercantile uses as defined in the latest
edition of the Uniform Fire Code with 5,000 square feet or more but
less than 7,500 square feet of total leased, rented or owned gross
floor area.

(3) M-4-D (3): storage uses as defined in the latest edition
of the Uniform Fire Code with 5,000 square feet or more but less than
7,500 square feet of total leased, rented or owned gross floor area
and not defined as a life-hazard use.

(4) M-4-D (4): eating and drinking establishments with
fewer than 50 occupants.
E. Type M-5-E:
(1) M-5-E (1): business uses as defined in the latest
edition of the Uniform Fire Code with 7,500 square feet or more but
less than 10,000 square feet of total leased, rented or owned gross
floor area.

(2) M-5-E (2): mercantile uses as defined in the latest
edition of the Uniform Fire Code with 7,500 square feet or more but
less than 10,000 square feet of total leased, rented or owned gross
floor area.

(3) M-5-E (3): storage buildings as defined in the latest
edition of the Uniform Fire Code with 7,500 square feet or more but
less than 10,000 square feet of total leased, rented or owned gross
floor area and not defined as a life-hazard use.

(4) M-5-E (4): hotels and motels with 100 rooms or less
and not defined as a life-hazard use.
(5) M-5-E (5): uses where fewer than 100 persons assemble
for the purpose of amusement, entertainment and recreation, such as
but not limited to recreation centers and health spas, etc.
F. Type M-6-F:
(1) M-6-F (1): business uses as defined in the latest
edition of the Uniform Fire Code with 10,000 square feet or more of
total leased, rented or owned gross floor area and not defined as
a life-hazard use.

(2) M-6-F (2): mercantile uses as defined in the latest
edition of the Uniform Fire Code with 10,000 square feet or more of
total leased, rented or owned gross floor area and not defined as
a life-hazard use.

(3) M-6-F (3): storage uses as defined in the Uniform
Fire Code with 10,000 square feet or more of total leased, rented
or owned gross floor area and not defined as a life-hazard use.

(4) M-6-F (4): factory and industrial uses as defined
in the latest edition of the Uniform Fire Code and not defined as
a life-hazard use.

(5) M-6-F (5): hotels and motels with 100 rooms or more
and not defined as a life-hazard use.
G. Any use which has been identified, registered and inspected as a life-hazard use shall be exempt from §
111-8 of this chapter.
H. All uses registered in accordance with this section
shall be inspected periodically, but not less than once per annum.

Permits in accordance with the types specified
in the Uniform Fire Code are required for all activities listed in
the Uniform Fire Code. Permits shall at all times be kept in the premises
designated and shall at all times be subject to inspection by the
Fire Official.

B. The application fee for a certificate of smoke detection
compliance shall be $50.

A. Purpose. The purpose of this section is to require
rapid access key compliance for all structures, except one- and two-family
dwellings, establish installation requirements and compliance as determined
by the Fire Official.
B. Key box required. All properties containing an automatic
fire protection system and/or those properties containing a fire alarm
system within the Township of Egg Harbor shall be equipped with a
key box as required by the Fire Official or Fire Chief. This shall
not apply to owner-occupied one- and two-family dwellings or hotels
with a twenty-four-hour-operated front desk.
C. Key box type and location. The key box shall be of
a UL-type and approved by the Egg Harbor Township Fire Chief or Fire
Official. The rapid entry key box shall be installed in a location
or locations designated and approved by the Fire Chief or Fire Official.
D. Key box contents. The rapid access key boxes shall
contain the following:
(1) Keys to locked points of ingress/egress, whether interior
or exterior of such buildings.
(2) Keys to all locked rooms and/or panels, including,
but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, sprinkler and alarms.
(3) Keys to locked elevator rooms and elevator controls.
(4) Keys to any fenced or otherwise physically secured
areas.
(5) Keys to any other areas as determined necessary and
appropriate by the Fire Chief or Fire Official.
(6) Emergency information card containing the name(s)
and phone number(s) of emergency contacts for such building.
(7) A floor plan of the rooms within the building, as
determined necessary and appropriate by the Fire Chief or Fire Official.
E. Compliance. Compliance for all existing buildings
shall be December 31, 2002. All newly constructed buildings not yet
occupied or buildings currently under construction shall comply upon
adoption of this section and the effective date of same.
F. Penalties. Penalties for noncompliance by any building
owner violating the provisions of this section shall be subject to
penalties as set forth in the Uniform Fire Code.
