It is the purpose of this chapter to comply with the equal protection provisions of the Federal and State Constitutions to provide equality of representation.

The City of Amsterdam shall be divided into five wards, bounded respectively as follows:
A. 
First Ward: Beginning at the intersection of Chapel Place and the boundary of the City of Amsterdam, then proceeding along the boundary of the City of Amsterdam easterly, northerly, easterly to its intersection with the northern end of Locust Avenue; then southerly along the center line of Locust Avenue to its intersection with Clizbe Avenue; then southeasterly and southerly along the center line of Clizbe Avenue to its intersection with Lyon Street; then southwesterly along the center line of Lyon Street to its intersection with Locust Avenue; then southerly along the center line of Locust Avenue to its intersection with Wallin Street; then westerly along the center line of Wallin Street to its intersection with Brookside Avenue; then southerly along the center line of Brookside Avenue to its intersection with Meadow Street; then westerly along the center line of Meadow Street to its intersection with Market Street; then southerly along the center line of Market Street to its intersection with Arnold Avenue; then westerly along the center line of Arnold Avenue to its intersection with Chestnut Street; then southerly along the center line of Chestnut Street to its intersection with Bunn Street; then westerly along the center line of Bunn Street to its intersection with Wilson Avenue; then northerly along the center line of Wilson Avenue to its intersection with Arnold Avenue; then westerly along the center line of Arnold Avenue to its intersection with Lindbergh Avenue; then westerly in a straight line to the intersection of Northampton Road and Hobart Drive; then southwesterly along the center line of Northampton Road to its intersection with The Mall; then northerly along the center line of The Mall to its intersection with Princeton Street; then westerly along Princeton Street to its intersection with Chapel Place; then northerly along the center line of Chapel Place to its intersection with Harvard Avenue; then westerly along the center line of Harvard Avenue to its end; then continuing along an extension of Harvard Avenue to a point on the western boundary of the City of Amsterdam; then following the boundary of the City of Amsterdam northerly, easterly and southerly to the place of beginning.
B. 
Second Ward: Beginning at the intersection of Clizbe Avenue and the northeastern boundary of the City of Amsterdam; then proceeding westerly along the center line of Clizbe Avenue to its intersection with Sanford Avenue; then southerly along the center line of Sanford Avenue to its intersection with Charles Lane; then easterly along the center line of Charles Lane to its intersection with the creek that flows behind Sanford Avenue, commonly known as the "Scully Gully"; then southwesterly along the center line of said creek to its intersection with Forest Avenue; then northwesterly along the center line of Forest Avenue to its intersection with Second Avenue; then southwesterly along Second Avenue to its intersection with Milton Avenue; then westerly along Milton Avenue to its intersection with Locust Avenue; then southerly along the center line of Locust Avenue to its intersection with Prospect Street; then easterly along the center line of Prospect Street to its intersection with Church Street; then southwesterly along the center line of Church Street to its intersection with Guy Park Avenue Extension; then westerly along the center line of Guy Park Avenue Extension and Guy Park Avenue to its intersection with Garden Street; then northerly along the center line of Garden Street to its intersection with Union Street; then westerly along the center line of Union Street to its intersection with Orange Street; then northerly along the center line of Orange Street to its intersection with Fairview Place; then easterly along Fairview place to its intersection with Henry Street; then northerly along the center line of Henry Street to its intersection with Bunn Street; then easterly along the center line of Bunn Street to its intersection with Chestnut Street; then northerly along the center line of Chestnut Street to its intersection with Arnold Avenue; then easterly along the center line of Arnold Avenue to its intersection with Market Street; then northerly along the center line of Market Street to its intersection with Meadow Street; then easterly along the center line of Meadow Street to its intersection with Brookside Avenue; then northerly along the center line of Brookside Avenue to its intersection with Wallin Street; then easterly along the center line of Wallin Street to its intersection with Locust Avenue; then northerly along the center line of Locust Avenue to its intersection with Lyon Street; then northeasterly along the center line of Lyon Street to its intersection with Clizbe Avenue; then northerly along the center line of Clizbe Avenue to its intersection with Locust Avenue; then northerly along the center line of Locust Avenue its intersection with the northeastern boundary of the City of Amsterdam; then following the boundary of the City of Amsterdam northeasterly then southeasterly to the place of beginning.
C. 
Third Ward: Beginning at the western boundary of the City of Amsterdam at its intersection with the northern bank of the Mohawk River; then proceeding easterly along the Mohawk River to a point being the extension of Clinton Street; then northerly along the center line of Clinton Street to its intersection with West Main Street; then easterly along the center line of West Main Street to its intersection with Bayard Street; then northerly along the center line of Bayard Street to its intersection with Division Street; then easterly along the center line of Division Street to its intersection with Guy Street; then northerly along the center line of Guy Street to its intersection with Guy Park Avenue; then easterly along the center line of Guy Park Avenue to its intersection with Garden Street; then northerly along the center line of Garden Street to its intersection with Union Street; then westerly along the center line of Union Street to its intersection with Orange Street; then northerly along the center line of Orange Street to its intersection with Fairview Place; then easterly along the center line of Fairview place to its intersection with Henry Street; then northerly along the center line of Henry Street to its intersection with Bunn Street; then westerly along the center line of Bunn Street to its intersection with Wilson Avenue; then northerly along the center line of Wilson Avenue to its intersection with Arnold Avenue; then westerly along the center line of Arnold Avenue to its intersection with Lindbergh Avenue; then continuing westerly in a straight line to the intersection of Northampton Road and Hobart Drive; then southwesterly along the center line of Northampton Road to its intersection with The Mall; then northerly along the center line of The Mall to its intersection with Princeton Street; then westerly along the center line of Princeton Street to its intersection with Chapel Place; then northerly along the center line of Chapel Place to its intersection with Harvard Avenue; then westerly along the center line of Harvard Avenue to its end; then continuing westerly along an extension of Harvard Avenue to a point on the western boundary of the City of Amsterdam; then following the boundary of the City of Amsterdam southerly and westerly to the place of beginning.

Fourth Ward: Beginning at the intersection of Clizbe Avenue and the northeastern boundary of the City of Amsterdam, then following the eastern boundary of the City of Amsterdam southeasterly, southerly, and westerly to its intersection with East Main Street; then easterly along the center line of East Main Street to its intersection with the DeGraff Creek; then northerly along the center line of the DeGraff Creek to its intersection with the extension of Forbes Street; then westerly along the center line of the Forbes Street extension and Forbes Street to its intersection with Dean Street; then northerly along the center line of Dean Street to its intersection with Cady Street; then westerly and northerly along the center line of Cady Street to its intersection with Grove Street; then westerly along the center line of Grove Street to its intersection with Bell Street; then northeasterly along the center line of Bell Street to its intersection with Reid Street; then northerly along the center line of Reid Street to its intersection with the St. Stanislaus Church driveway; then westerly through the St. Stanislaus Church Driveway to its intersection with Cornell Street; then northerly along the center line of Cornell Street to its intersection with Church Street; then westerly along Church Street to its intersection with Prospect Street; then westerly along the center line of Prospect Street to its intersection with Locust Avenue; then northerly along the center line of Locust Avenue to its intersection with Milton Avenue; then easterly along the center line of Milton Avenue to its intersection with Second Avenue; then northeasterly along the center line of Second Avenue to its intersection with Forest Avenue; then southerly along the center line of Forest Avenue to its intersection with the creek that flows behind Sanford Avenue, commonly known as the "Scully Gully"; then northeasterly along the center line of said creek to its intersection with Charles Lane; then westerly along the center line of Charles Lane to its intersection with Sanford Avenue; then northerly along the center line of Sanford Avenue to its intersection with Clizbe Avenue; then easterly along the center line of Clizbe Avenue to the place of beginning.

Fifth Ward: Beginning at the western boundary of the City of Amsterdam at its intersection with the northern bank of the Mohawk River; then proceeding easterly along the Mohawk River to a point being the extension of Clinton Street; then northerly along the center line of Clinton Street to its intersection with West Main Street; then easterly along the center line of West Main Street to its intersection with Bayard Street; then northerly along the center line of Bayard Street to its intersection with Division Street; then easterly along the center line of Division Street to its intersection with Guy Street; then northerly along the center line of Guy Street to its intersection with Guy Park Avenue; then easterly along the center line of Guy Park Avenue and Guy Park Avenue Extension to its intersection with Church Street; then northeasterly along the center line of Church Street to its intersection with Cornell Street; thence southerly along the center line of Cornell Street to its intersection with the St. Stanislaus Church driveway; then easterly through the St. Stanislaus Church driveway to its intersection with Reid Street; then southerly along the center line of Reid Street to its intersection with Bell Street; then southwesterly along the center line of Bell Street to its intersection with Grove Street; then easterly along Grove Street to its intersection with Cady Street; then southerly and easterly along the center line of Cady Street to its intersection with Dean Street; then southerly along the center line of Dean Street to its intersection with Forbes Street; then easterly along the center line of Forbes Street and an extension of Forbes Street to the center line of the DeGraff Creek; then southerly following the center line of the DeGraff Creek to East Main Street; then easterly along the center line of East Main Street to the eastern boundary of the City of Amsterdam; then following the boundary of the City of Amsterdam southerly as it crosses the Mohawk River; then following the boundary of the City of Amsterdam southerly, westerly and northerly as it borders the Town of Florida; then following the City of Amsterdam boundary northerly as it crosses the Mohawk River to the place of beginning.
