In addition to the inspection and fees required
pursuant to the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, hereinafter referred
to as the "Act," and the regulations of the Department of Community
Affairs, the following additional inspections and fees for those uses
not defined as life-hazard uses shall be required. In this regard,
the following buildings, uses, businesses and other premises contained
in this section are subject to registration and periodic inspection
requirements as hereinafter established. Where two or more of the
same uses or different uses exist at the same building or premises,
each one shall be considered as separate and distinct for the purpose
of this article and shall be registered pursuant thereto.
A. Factory and industrial.
(1) Factory and industrial buildings, as defined in the
latest edition of the BOCA Basic/National Building Code, shall be
registered and inspected for compliance with the provisions of this
article periodically but not less than once every 12 months.
(2) The registration fees shall be as follows:
(a)
Five hundred square feet or less total gross
floor area: $50 per year.
(b)
Five hundred one to 2,500 square feet total
gross floor area: $100 per year.
(c)
Two thousand five hundred one to 5,000 square
feet total gross floor area: $150 per year.
(d)
Five thousand one to 7,500 square feet total
gross floor area: $200 per year.
(e)
Seven thousand five hundred one to 10,000 square
feet total gross floor area: $250 per year.
(f)
Ten thousand one to 12,500 square feet total
gross floor area: $300 per year.
(g)
Twelve thousand five hundred one square feet
or more total gross floor area: $350 per year.
(3) Exceptions: buildings listed and registered as life-hazard
uses in the Act.
B. Mercantile uses.
(1) All mercantile uses, to include but not be limited
to retail stores, eating establishments with a maximum occupancy of
49 or less, frankfurter and hamburger stands and catering services,
shall be charged a fee of $40 per year for registration and fire inspections.
(2) Exception: those mercantile uses listed as life-hazard
uses in the Act.
C. All business uses, to include but not to be limited
to medical offices, dental offices, law offices, accounting offices,
real estate offices, insurance offices, architect's offices, banks,
post offices, animal clinics, barbershops, beauty shops, dance studios,
shall be charged a fee of $40 per year for registration and fire inspections.
D. Residential uses.
(1) Residential uses, to include but not be limited to
hotels, motels, boardinghouses, multifamily dwellings and rental units,
shall be charged a fee of $40 for the first three units or $5 for
each additional unit per year for registration and fire inspections.
(2) Exception: single-family and two-family dwellings
occupied by the owner of the property and those listed as life-hazard
uses in the Act.
E. Storage uses.
(1) All storage uses, to include but not to be limited
to warehouses, garages and trailers, shall be charged a fee of $40
per year for registration and fire inspections.
(2) Exception: those listed as life-hazard uses in the
Act.
F. Assembly uses.
(1) All assembly uses, with a maximum permitted occupancy
of 99 or less, to include but not to be limited to art galleries,
recreation centers, lecture and/or exhibition halls without fixed
seating, health spas and bingo halls, shall be charged a fee of $50
per year for registration and fire inspections.
(2) Exception: those listed as life-hazard uses in the
Act. Neither charitable nor nonprofit organizations shall be obliged
to pay any fees called for in this section.
