The Mayor shall supervise the administrative affairs of the City and shall carry out the policies enacted by the Board of Aldermen. He shall perform those duties prescribed by the City Charter (see Section 45) and he shall have such other powers and duties as are not inconsistent with the provisions of this Charter. The Mayor shall appoint an administrative assistant who shall perform such duties as the Mayor shall determine and whose term in office shall coincide with that of the Mayor. The administrative assistant can be removed by the Mayor for good cause. The Mayor shall appoint such administrative staff as he deems necessary to support the functions performed in his office.

The Mayor's staff shall consist of those individuals as he shall determine necessary to perform the following functions:
A. 
Legal. The City Solicitor/Corporation Counsel shall be the same person and shall be chief legal officer of the City. The City Solicitor/Corporation Counsel shall be appointed as specified in the City Charter, Section 42. The individual appointed shall have been admitted to, and be in good standing as an attorney and counsellor of all courts, both state and federal, sitting in the state. This individual shall be responsible for the satisfactory performance of all the legal work of the City. The City Solicitor/Corporation Counsel is responsible for keeping current with respect to all laws and regulations affecting the City. There shall be a Deputy City Solicitor/Corporation Counsel, who shall assist the City Solicitor/Corporation Counsel in the performance of his duties and perform such other duties as assigned by the City Solicitor/Corporation Counsel or the Mayor. The Deputy City Solicitor/Corporation Counsel shall be appointed by the Mayor, in consultation with the City Solicitor/Corporation Counsel, and shall be confirmed by the Board of Aldermen. The City Solicitor/Corporation Counsel may hire such other professional and administrative staff as deemed necessary, and the Mayor shall have final approval on all personnel to be hired.
B. 
Emergency. The office of the Mayor shall be responsible for the emergency preparedness function.[1]

C. 
Economic development. The mission of the Mayor's economic development function is to promote a diversified, sustainable and vibrant economic base that maintains a high quality of life for Nashua residents and businesses. The Mayor shall appoint, with the consent of the Board of Aldermen, a Director of Economic Development. The Director of Economic Development shall report to the Mayor. He/she shall have overall responsibility for developing programs to enhance the economic vitality of the City, including maintenance of strong communications between the business community and the City; fostering opportunities for job retention and existing business expansion; promoting expansion of the labor force; promoting employment diversity and growth through new business recruitment; encouraging the continued enhancement and vitality of downtown Nashua as the focal point of the community and a desirable place to live, work, shop and conduct social discourse; and oversight and management of public parking lots, garages and meters and parking enforcement. In addition the Director shall also undertake such special studies, projects, and other related duties as may be assigned by the Mayor to promote economic development; undertake or assist in the development and implementation of intermediate and long-range plans for the economic development and improvement of the City; and maintain up-to-date statistics on the economic conditions of the City.

A. 
City Clerk. The mayor shall appoint a City Clerk in accordance with Section 42 of the City Charter. The City Clerk shall report directly to the mayor and shall perform those duties prescribed by law, the City Charter and ordinances, to include the proper maintenance of voter registration files and voter registration procedures (as delegated by the Board of Registrars), the recording and maintenance of vital statistics which the City is responsible for maintaining, the maintenance of City ordinances and resolutions, and the preparation of agendas and minutes of the Board of Aldermen as the Board may direct. The City Clerk shall perform such other duties as may be directed by the mayor. Within 10 days after assuming office, the City Clerk shall give bond as specified by state law.[1]
