Certain provisions of the Internal Revenue Code of the United States
of America allow Volunteer Fire Departments to finance the purchase of fire-fighting
equipment at favorably low rates of interest through the issuance of tax-free
bonds, provided that certain requirements are met. Among these conditions
is that there be an agreement, statute or ordinance providing that the volunteer
fire company supply fire-fighting services in an otherwise unprotected area.
Attached hereto as Schedule A and incorporated into this article is a map designating the primary
service areas of the volunteer fire companies which regularly provide fire-fighting
services within Readington Township, namely: East Whitehouse Fire Company,
Inc.; Readington Fire Company, Inc.; Three Bridges Volunteer Fire Company,
Inc.; and Whitehouse Fire Company No. 1, Inc.
This designation of primary service areas is in no way to be construed
as limiting, impairing or restricting the volunteer fire companies in their
fire-fighting activities and/or their response to fire emergency whenever
and wherever needed.
Other than mutual aid from fire companies in surrounding communities, which is available in the event of calamity, disaster or other emergency, the volunteer fire companies set forth in §
21-7 hereof are the only organizations providing fire-fighting services within Readington Township.
