The Township Committee hereby finds that there is a need to provide
for a standard display of house numbers on properties within the Township
of Westampton. The Committee further finds that the display of these numbers
will facilitate public safety and will further the protection of life and
property within the Township of Westampton.
Every principal house, building or structure erected or located within
the Township of Westampton shall have displayed on the portion of the building
facing the street the number assigned by the township to the building. If
the number on the building is not clearly visible from the street because
of distance or some interference, the number shall also be displayed on a
plaque or post located in a prominent place on the property that is easily
visible from the street. The number shall be a minimum of four inches in height
and clearly visible on the background to which it is attached. The numbers
shall be in numerical and not in script form, and the numbers shall be procured
and affixed and maintained at the expense of the owners of the property.
This chapter shall take effect on August 1, 1989. The delayed date of
effectiveness shall provide the township the time to allow residents sufficient
opportunity to obtain and display the numbers required.
Any person as defined above who violates any provision of this chapter
shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine not exceeding $50 within
the discretion of the Municipal Judge. A separate offense shall be deemed
committed on each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues.
