There is established a committee to be known as the "Senior Citizen Advisory Committee of the Township of Freehold."

The Committee shall consist of seven members appointed by the Township Committee; all of whom shall be residents of the Township. One member shall be a member of the Township Committee. The remaining six members shall be from the public at large. The Township Committee member shall serve a term concurrent with his term of office as a member of the Township Committee. The terms of office of the remaining members of the Committee shall be for three years. Initially, the members shall be appointed for one, two or three years to be designated by the Township Committee when it makes its appointments so that the terms of two members shall expire each year and their successor shall be appointed for terms of three years until the appointment and qualification of their successors. All Committee members shall serve without compensation. In January of each year, the members of the Committee shall designate one of their number to serve as Chairperson and as presiding officer.
The Senior Citizens Advisory Committee shall have the following powers:
A. 
To conduct research, make studies, compile data and make reports concerning the needs of senior citizens of the Township.
B. 
To recommend to the Township Committee and such other appropriate agencies and/or boards programs for the benefit and assistance of senior citizens.
C. 
To act as the coordinating agency of the Township on matters of aging and as a liaison between local, regional, state and federal agencies administering those matters.
D. 
To provide representation of local, county and state meetings or hearings concerning the aged.
E. 
To perform and investigate such other senior citizen matters as may be deemed for the benefit of the Township.
