Provisions relating to special policemen; appointment; powers.

The Mayor of the Incorporated Village of Garden City,
New York, shall have power to appoint such number of special policemen for
the village as he may deem necessary to preserve the public peace in case
of fire, traffic congestion or other occasion when the regularly appointed
and constituted officers of the Police Department require assistance. Such
special policemen shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the
Board of Trustees and shall serve only on such occasions, including training
periods, as the Mayor shall designate. Such special policemen shall be residents
of the village and shall be under the sole control of the regularly appointed
and constituted officers of the Police Department or police force. They shall
have the power to make arrests only for public intoxication, traffic violation,
disorderly conduct or other offenses against peace and good order.
