It is recognized that the health, safety and welfare of the
residents of the Township of Shaler must be protected to the maximum
extent possible and legally permissible. It is further recognized
that the keeping of certain animals poses a serious danger to the
health, safety and welfare of the residents of the Township of Shaler
due to both the nature of certain animals and the demographics and
environment of the Township.
It shall be unlawful for any person, partnership, association,
firm or corporation to keep, maintain or have in his or its possession
or under his or its control within the Township of Shaler any poisonous
reptile or any other dangerous or carnivorous wild animal or reptile,
including any nonpoisonous snake not native to the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania, as well as any vicious or dangerous domesticated animal
or any other animal or reptile of wild, vicious or dangerous propensities.
It shall be unlawful for any person, partnership, association,
firm or corporation to keep, maintain or have in his or its possession
or under his or its control within the Township of Shaler any of the
following animals:
All poisonous animals, including rear-fang snakes.

Apes: chimpanzees (Pan), gibbons (Hylobates), gorillas (Gorilla),
orangutans (Pongo) and siamangs (Symphalangus)

Baboons (Papoi, Mandrillus)
|
Bears (Ursidae)
|
Bison (Bison)
|
Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus)
|
Crocodilians (Crocodilia)
|
Coyotes (Canis latrans)
|
Deer (Cervidae): includes all members of the deer family, for
example, white-tailed deer, elk, antelope and moose
|
Elephants (Elephas and Loxodonta)
|
Game cocks and other fighting birds
|
Hippopotami (Hipopotamidae)
|
Hyenas (Hyaenidae)
|
Jaguars (Panthera onca)
|
Leopards (Panthera pardus)
|
Lions (Panthera leo)
|
Lynxes (Lynx)
|
Ostriches (Struthio)
|
Pumas (Felis concolor) also known as "cougars," "mountain lions"
and "panthers"
|
Rhinoceroses (Rhinocero tidae)
|
Snakes, constrictor and pythons (Python molurus bivittatus);
(Pythonidae family)

Snow leopards (Panthera uncia)

The provisions of this article shall not apply to the display
of wild or exotic animals by institutions accredited by the American
Zoological Association (ASA) or by the Association of Sanctuaries.
Any person, persons, firm, partnership or corporation violating
any of the provisions of this article shall, upon conviction thereof
before any Magisterial District Judge, be sentenced to pay a fine
of not more $600 plus costs of prosecution and may be sentenced to
a period of incarceration not exceeding 90 days, or both. Each and
every day that a violation hereof continues shall constitute a separate
and distinct summary offense under this article and shall be subject
to separate and distinct penalties.
