No person or persons, firm or corporation, except as hereinafter
provided, shall conduct, exhibit or produce any show, circus, panorama,
concert or picnic, or run or operate any riding gallery (commonly
called "merry-go-round"), roller coaster, chute-the-chute, miniature
golf course or driving range, shooting gallery, nickelodeon, moving-picture
show, dancing platform or pavilion, or any similar or like concern,
device or entertainment for which an admission charge is made or for
which money or any valuable thing is demanded or received, within
the Township of Shaler, without a license or permit for that purpose
first had and obtained from the Committee on Public Safety of said
Township and subject to the restrictions and regulations of this chapter,
which license or permit shall express for what it is granted and the
time it is to continue.

No license for any such riding gallery (commonly called "merry-go-round"),
roller coaster, chute-the-chute, shooting gallery, dancing platform,
poolroom or pavilion or any similar or like concern, device or entertainment
within said Township shall be granted without the payment of a license
fee of $5 per day for each and every day that such merry-go-round,
roller coaster, chute-the-chute, shooting gallery, dancing platform,
poolroom or pavilion or any similar or like concern, device or entertainment
shall be operated. No permit or license to operate a miniature golf
course, driving range, moving-picture show or nickelodeon shall be
granted without payment of a license fee of $50 per year. No permit
or license for picnics shall be granted without the payment of a license
fee of $2.50 per day for each and every day such picnic shall be conducted,
except Sundays and holidays, when said license fee shall be $5 per
day. No license for any boxing bout, boxing exhibition or prizefight
or wrestling match shall be granted without the payment of a license
fee of $50 for each and every boxing bout, boxing exhibition, prizefight
or wrestling match; the license to pay for the services of 10 police
officers at the rate of $4 per officer for each boxing or wrestling
show held; provided, however, that where any entertainment or amusement
of any kind is held or given by any civic, religious or patriotic
organization of the Township of Shaler for the sole benefit of such
civic, religious or patriotic organization, the permit for same shall
be granted without the payment of any license fees whatsoever.
Before any license or permit will be granted for any merry-go-round,
roller coaster, chute-the-chute, miniature golf course or driving
range, shooting gallery, nickelodeon, dancing platform, poolroom or
pavilion or any similar or like concern device or entertainment of
any and all kinds whatsoever, an application for such license or permit
must be made to the Committee on Public Safety at least three days
before the time for holding such entertainment, etc. The application
shall state the names and addresses of the person or persons, firm
or corporation desiring to operate said amusement or said devices
and shall also state specifically the nature of the amusement and
the time and place when the same is to be operated or held. The application
shall be accompanied by the necessary license fees as fixed by the
provisions of this chapter.
The Committee on Public Safety, if satisfied that the purpose
of said entertainment, show, etc., is proper and that the same will
not be offensive to the peace and good order of the community in which
it is to be held, shall grant a permit or license for such purpose
according to the terms and provisions of this chapter.
All fees for licenses or permits which shall be granted by the
Committee on Public Safety shall be paid into the Township treasury.
If a license or permit is refused, all money accompanying the application
for such license or permit shall be returned forthwith to the applicant.
No person or persons, firm or corporation shall act, exhibit
or cause to be acted, exhibited, shown or performed or be in any way
concerned in the acting, exhibiting, showing or performing of any
indecent or blasphemous play, farce, opera, public exhibition, show
or entertainment of any kind whatsoever within the bounds of said
Township.
No person or persons, firm or corporation shall sell, give or
distribute by lottery or by any scheme of chance any personal or real
property to or among any person or persons attending or proposing
to attend any performance or amusement place mentioned in this chapter,
nor shall any game of chance of any kind whatsoever or lottery of
any kind be run or permitted to be run within the bounds of said Township.
Should any public merry-go-round, roller coaster, chute-the-chute,
miniature golf course or driving range, shooting gallery, nickelodeon,
moving-picture show, dancing platform or pavilion or any similar or
like concern, device or entertainment become offensive to the community
in which it is located by reason of loud, boisterous, profane language
and actions on the part of those attending said place of amusement,
the same may forthwith be closed by the police of said Township upon
orders received from the Committee on Public Safety.
The provisions of this chapter requiring the payment of a license fee of $5 per day shall not apply to such hotels, restaurants, tearooms and other places which are open for business during the entire year and which permit their patrons to use the hotel, restaurant or tearoom premises for the purpose of dancing before, at or after meal time. All such hotels, restaurants and tearooms shall make application for an annual license as provided in §
100-3 of this chapter, and if the Committee on Public Safety shall be satisfied that such hotel, restaurant or tearoom is properly conducted and that the use of such hotel, restaurant or tearoom premises for the purpose of dancing will not be offensive to the peace and good order of the community in which such hotel, restaurant or tearoom is located, an annual license shall be granted to such hotel, restaurant or tearoom, permitting dancing upon said premises, upon the payment of an annual license fee of $50 where the music for dancing is obtained from a player piano or other mechanical device and an annual license fee of $100 where the music for dancing is obtained from a piano, organ or orchestra of any number of pieces. Said license fees shall be paid to the Treasurer of the Township. The annual license fee for miniature golf courses or driving ranges and for skating ponds or rinks shall be $50 per year.
Said annual license granted to such hotel, restaurant, tearoom, miniature golf course, driving range or skating rink as described in §
100-9 of this chapter may be revoked at any time by the Committee on Public Safety for any of the causes set forth in §
100-8 of this chapter. All other provisions of this chapter shall apply to such hotels, restaurants, tearooms, miniature golf course, driving ranges and skating rinks.
The provisions of this chapter shall not extend to any private
club or institution which holds dances or other forms of amusement
solely for its own members and their guests.

Any person or persons, firm or corporation violating any provision
of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, pay a fine in a sum
not exceeding $600, the same to be recovered according to law, and
in default of the payment of any such fine, to undergo an imprisonment
not exceeding 90 days in the Allegheny County Jail.
