It shall be the duty of the Building Official or his authorized
agent to assign an address number or building number to every principal
structure within the corporate limits of the City of Colonial Heights.
In the case of principal buildings existing upon the effective date
of this section, numbers commonly used or previously assigned shall
be used for the purposes of this section until the Building Official
or his agent determines, in his discretion, that it is necessary to
assign a new number.
Numbers shall be placed by the owner at his
expense on new buildings within 90 days after being assigned.
[Amended 5-10-2016 by Ord. No. 16-16]

or building numbers in a position that is plainly visible from the
street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast
with their background. Where required by the fire code official, address
numbers shall be provided in additional approved locations to facilitate
emergency response. Address numbers shall be Arabic numbers or alphabetic
letters. Numbers shall be a minimum of four inches (101.6 mm) high
with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch (12.7 mm). Where access is
by means of a private road and the building cannot be viewed from
the public way, a monument, pole, or other sign or means shall be
used to identify the structure. Each property owner shall maintain
his address numbers.
