The office of the Medical Examiner of Rockland County is hereby established.
The office shall be filled by the Legislature of Rockland County by appointment
of a duly qualified individual as Medical Examiner.
The Medical Examiner shall perform all duties required by law. In addition
thereto, he shall perform such additional and related duties involving the
exercise of professional skills and training as may be prescribed by County
Law § 671, Subdivision 3.

The Medical Examiner shall serve a term of four years from the date
of appointment. A certificate of such appointment shall be filed and recorded
in the office of the County Clerk. The Medical Examiner, before entering upon
the duties of his office, shall take and file the prescribed oath of office
and furnish and file the required undertaking.
The Medical Examiner shall devote 40 hours per week to the performance
of the functions of the office of the Medical Examiner, of which 20 hours
shall be during the normal workday hours.
The Medical Examiner's office shall be a Division of the Health
Department. It shall be known as the "Medical Examiner's Division" and,
except as provided hereinafter, shall be considered the same as any other
Division of the Health Department.
All the employees of the Medical Examiner's Division shall be appointed
by the Health Commissioner of Rockland County after consultation with and giving due consideration
to the recommendations of the Medical Examiner. The Rockland County Health
Commissioner shall be responsible for the supervision and administration of
the Medical Examiner and the Medical Examiner's Division of the Rockland
County Health Department. It shall be the function of the Rockland County
Health Commissioner to provide the Medical Examiner with appropriate support
staff and equipment so that the Medical Examiner may perform his statutory
function. The Medical Examiner shall submit to the Health Commissioner such
reports and information, schedules and other information as is requested by
the Health Commissioner, in accordance with the requirements of state law.
Those employees assigned by the Rockland County Health Commissioner to the
Medical Examiner's Division shall be under the day-to-day supervision
of the Medical Examiner.
