The boundaries of districts established by this chapter shall be shown on the Official Zoning Map which is hereby incorporated into the provisions of this chapter.[1] The Zoning Map in its entirety, including all amendments, shall be as much a part of this chapter as if fully set forth and described herein.

A. 
Identification of map. The Official Zoning Map[1] shall be identified by the signature of the Mayor, together with the date of the map, and shall bear the Town Seal under the following words: "This is to certify that this is the Official Zoning Map referred to in the Zoning Ordinance of the Town of Hillsville, Virginia." The Official Zoning Map shall be located in the office of the Zoning Administrator and shall not be removed from that office except for official purposes authorized by the Zoning Administrator.

B. 
Recording amendments on map. Whenever amendment is made to the zoning district boundaries or other matter depicted on the Official Zoning Map[2] by ordinance adopted by the Town Council, the Zoning Administrator shall see that the amendment is properly recorded on the Official Zoning Map, along with the effective date and nature of the amendment. Each amendment shall be recorded as soon as practicable after its adoption.

C. 
Effective date of amendments. The effective date of any amendment to the zoning district boundaries shall be the effective date of the ordinance providing for the amendment. Any delay in or failure to record an amendment on the Official Zoning Map[3] or any error in recording or depicting the amendment shall not affect the validity of the ordinance providing for the amendment.

D. 
Unauthorized changes to map. It shall be unlawful for any person to make changes on the Official Zoning Map[4] except by authorization of the Zoning Administrator for official purposes and in accordance with the provisions of this Article. Any unauthorized change shall be considered a violation of this chapter punishable as specified in § 171-25.

E. 
Copies of Official Zoning Map.[5] The Zoning Administrator shall cause copies of the Official Zoning Map to be made in such numbers, in such form and for such purposes as deemed appropriate by the Zoning Administrator with the consent of the Town Council. In the case of any discrepancy between the Official Zoning Map and any copies thereof, the Official Zoning Map shall be the final authority.

When uncertainty exists as to the boundaries of districts shown on the Official Zoning Map,[1] the following rules shall apply:
A. 
Boundaries indicated as approximately following the center line of streets, highways or alleys shall be construed to follow such center lines.
B. 
Boundaries indicated as approximately following platted lot lines shall be construed as following such lot lines.
C. 
Boundaries indicated as approximately following corporate limits shall be construed as following such corporate limits.
D. 
Boundaries indicated as approximately following the center lines of streams or other bodies of water shall be construed to follow such center lines.
E. 
Distances not specifically indicated on the Official Zoning Map[2] shall be determined by the scale of map.

F. 
Where physical or cultural features existing on the ground are at variance with those shown on the Official Zoning Map or in other circumstances not covered by Subsections A through E above, the Board of Zoning Appeals shall interpret the district boundaries. (See Article XVIII.)

Any area for which no zoning classification is shown on the Official Zoning Map[1] shall be construed as being within the A-1 Agricultural/Residential District unless otherwise designated by ordinance adopted by the Town Council.

Any territory hereafter annexed to the town shall be construed as being within the A-1 Agricultural/Residential District until otherwise designated by ordinance adopted by the Town Council.
