In accordance with the provisions of § 8-1b
of the Connecticut General Statutes as amended, it is hereby provided
that three alternate members shall be elected to the Planning and
Zoning Commission at the regular Town elections for a term of two
years. Such alternate members shall be electors of the Town of Newtown
and shall not be members of any other commission or of the Zoning
Board of Appeals. The initial three members shall be appointed by
the Board of Selectmen to serve until the next regular Town election.
If a regular member of said Commission is absent, he may designate
in writing an alternate member of such Commission to act in his place.
If he fails to make such designation or if he is disqualified, the
Chairman of the Commission shall designate an alternate to so act,
choosing alternates in rotation so that they shall act as nearly equal
a number of times as possible. If any alternate is not available in
accordance with such rotation, such fact shall be recorded in the
minutes of the meeting.
