There is hereby established and created in the
government of the Township of River Vale a Department which shall
be known as the "Department of Athletics."
The Department of Athletics shall be charged
with the planning, development and implementation of athletic activities,
programs, events, and such other athletic and sporting activities
as may be approved from time to time by the government of the Township
to promote athletics within the Township, but shall not include social
and/or cultural events, which shall be the jurisdiction of the Department
of Social and Cultural Affairs.
A.
The Department of Athletics shall consist of a Director
of Athletics, who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice
and consent of the Council. The Director shall hold this office for
a period of four years or until the expiration of the term of the
appointing Mayor, whichever shall first occur, unless sooner removed
and until his or her successor shall have qualified.
B.
The Department shall have such other permanent or
temporary employees as may be appointed by the Director, with the
approval of the Mayor, in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40:69A-43(d).
C.
The existence and continuance of any of the above-specified
offices shall be determined by the governing body as it may from time
to time in its sole discretion deem reasonably necessary for the efficient
operation of the Department.
