Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:46-2.1,[1] the office of Deputy Borough Clerk for the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus is hereby created and established.

The Mayor shall nominate and, with the advice and consent of the Council, appoint a suitable person to the office of Deputy Borough Clerk, and such person shall be known and designated as "Deputy Borough Clerk."
The term of the person appointed to the office of Deputy Borough Clerk shall be for one year commencing at 12:00 noon on the first day of January of the year of appointment and terminating at 12:00 noon on the first day of January of the year following, or until a successor has been appointed and has qualified, except that, for the year 1960, the term of office shall commence on the first day of the month following the date of appointment and qualification, and terminate at 12:00 noon on January 1, 1961, or until a successor has been appointed and has qualified.
The Deputy Borough Clerk shall have all the powers and perform all the duties of the Borough Clerk during such times and for such specific periods as the Borough Clerk shall be absent and shall perform such other duties as the Mayor and Council shall from time to time prescribe.
The compensation to be paid the Deputy Borough Clerk shall be as the Mayor and Council shall hereafter from time to time prescribe.[1]
