A. 
Dogs running at large. Any dog running at large in violation of this chapter shall, for the purposes hereof, be considered a stray dog and the Animal Control Officer or any person appointed by the Township Manager for the purpose shall take or cause to be taken into custody and impound any dog found running at large.
B. 
Animals. The Animal Control Officer or any person authorized by the Municipal Manager is authorized to take into custody any animal which is:
(1) 
Without a current license tag on its collar or harness as required by Township Code;
(2) 
In such circumstances as would constitute violation of any provision of the Lawrence Township Code, Chapter 15 entitled "Animal Control";
(3) 
Behaving in such a manner as to constitute a public health nuisance;
(4) 
Any animal so taken into custody shall be delivered to a licensed veterinarian having facilities for its detention or to a licensed kennel;
If any animal taken into custody wears a collar or harness having attached thereto the name and address of any person or license tag, or if the owner or person keeping or harboring the animal is known, the Animal Control Officer or any person authorized by the Municipal Manager shall notify the person whose address is given on the collar or harness or if known, the person keeping or harboring the animal, that the animal has been taken into custody and will be liable to be disposed of or destroyed if not claimed within one week after giving notice. Such notice shall be given verbally or in writing.
Any person who is entitled to redeem an animal may redeem such animal within one week after notice is given and if notice is not required to be given hereunder, any person claiming the animal shall be entitled to redeem the animal within one week after being taken into custody, upon producing a current rabies vaccination certificate and a current license and tag for the animal, if the animal was unlicensed and untagged at the time of its seizure and upon paying the Township Clerk a redemption fee of $25 and all expenses incurred by reason of the animal's detention.
