No person shall engage in the business of selling
goods or property at public auction without first having obtained
a license therefor from the President and Trustees of said Village.
Any person wishing to engage in such business
in the Village of New Haven shall make application in writing to the
Village Council, signed by him, setting forth the commodity or commodities
or general character of the goods or property he wishes to sell, and
the time he wishes to be thus engaged in the sale thereof, and file
the same with the Clerk of said Village.
Any person applying for such license shall,
before the issuing thereof, pay into the treasury of said Village
such sum as the Council in its discretion may determine, which in
no case shall exceed the sum of $5 per day. Upon production of the
receipt of the Village Treasurer showing the payment of such money,
a license may issue for the carrying on of such business to the applicant,
under the hands of the President and Clerk of said Village.
The provisions of this chapter shall not a apply
to sales on legal process or on foreclosure of any mortgage nor to
sales of household furniture heretofore in use.

Any person or persons who shall violate any of the provisions of this chapter, on conviction thereof, shall be punished as set forth in Chapter
59, Municipal Civil Infractions, of the Code of the Village of New Haven.
