As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
FIRE LANE
A strip of shopping center parking area 25 feet in width located
immediately adjacent to the front of the store area of a shopping center and
extending the full length of said store frontage.
PARK or PARKING
The standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, otherwise than
temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading
merchandise or passengers.

SHOPPING CENTER PARKING AREA
As set forth in § 129-a of the Vehicle and Traffic Law
of the State of New York, an area or areas of private property totalling at
least one acre, near or contiguous to and provided in connection with premises
having one or more stores or business establishments, and used by the public
as a means of access to and egress from such stores and business establishments
and for the free parking of motor vehicles of customers and patrons of such
stores and business establishments.
The parking of vehicles or the location of any objects whatsoever in
a fire lane is hereby prohibited. Said fire lane area shall be defined by
pavement markings and by the location of NO PARKING FIRE LANE signs at appropriate
intervals along said lane.
This chapter is adopted pursuant to the authority of § 1660-a
of the Vehicle Traffic Law and shall have effect only in those shopping centers
from which the Town has received consent pursuant to said section.
