This chapter shall be known and cited as "Chapter
280, Vehicles and Traffic, of the Code of the Borough of Fanwood," and as the "Traffic Ordinance of the Borough of Fanwood."
Whenever any words and phrases are used in this
chapter, the meanings respectively ascribed to them in Subtitle 1
of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey shall be deemed
to apply.
All former traffic ordinances of the Borough
of Fanwood are hereby repealed, except that this repeal shall not
affect or prevent the prosecution or punishment of any person for
any act done or committed in violation of any ordinance hereby repealed
prior to the taking effect of this chapter.
If any part or parts of this chapter for any
reason are held invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity
of the remaining portions of this chapter.

Unless another penalty is expressly provided
by New Jersey statute or the Borough Code, every person convicted
of a violation of a provision of this chapter or any supplement thereto,
including but not limited to the parking regulations, shall be liable
to a penalty of not less than $35 and not more than $75 or imprisonment
for a term not exceeding 15 days, or both.
The members of the Fanwood Police Department
shall enforce the provisions of this chapter and other applicable
provisions as prescribed by law.

The Mayor shall have the authority to close
any street, off-street parking lot, or portions thereof, to motor
vehicles, bicycles and/or pedestrian traffic on any day or days or
during specified hours on any day or days whenever he/she finds that
such closing is necessary for the preservation of the public safety,
health or welfare. The order closing any street, off-street parking
lot or portions thereof shall provide for the posting of proper warning
signs of such closing during the time of such closing and shall also
provide for the posting of proper detour signs to guide the traffic
safely around such closed street, off-street parking lot or portions
thereof so as to preserve the public safety, health and welfare of
the peripheral areas affected by such closing.
No person shall do any act forbidden by or fail
to perform or comply with any act required in this chapter or other
applicable provisions as prescribed by law.
