Editor's Note: this article also provided as follows: “Please take notice to the extent that this article may conflict with applicable portions of the Town Law of the State of New York, it is the stated intention of the Town to exercise its authority to supersede and amend, as granted under the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York, Section 10. The Town hereby provides notice that it is exercising its authority to supersede and amend pursuant to Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York Section 22.”
Pursuant to § 24-a of the Town Law of the State of New York, the term of office of Town Clerk of the Town of Deerpark, Orange County, New York, is extended from the current two-year term to a four-year term. This article shall be submitted to a mandatory referendum at the next general election held in the Town after the adoption of this article by the Town Board.

The intent of this article is to extend the term of the aforementioned elected official of the Town commencing with the individual elected at the next general election after the mandatory referendum. Therefore, the individual elected to the position of Town Clerk, after but not including the general election of 2010, shall serve for a four-year term.
