This chapter shall be known and cited as the "Zoning Ordinance of the Town of Wilton, New York."
A. 
Pursuant to the authority conferred under Town Law, State of New York, Chapter 62 of the Consolidated Laws, Article 16, §§ 260 to 284, inclusive, and for the purpose of promoting the health, safety, morals, prosperity and general welfare of the residents of the Town of Wilton and efficiency in economy in the process of the development of the Town of Wilton, the following chapter is hereby enacted by the Town Board.
B. 
This chapter is adopted to promote safety from fire and other dangers; to provide adequate areas between buildings and rights-of-way; to preserve the rural attractiveness of Wilton; and to promote a good civic design, wise land use and efficient expenditures of public funds. This chapter is adopted to provide adequately for public utilities and other requirements and, by means of the state authority, to provide a sound environment for the residents of the Town of Wilton now and in the future.
C. 
The purpose of the chapter does not supersede any similar and related county, state and federal regulations relating to topics within this chapter, except in those areas where this chapter is more restrictive. The provisions of this chapter shall be deemed to be specific. Those matters for which there are no specific provisions in this chapter shall be referred to the Town Board.
