The City Council of the City of Pottsville hereby signifies its intention and desire to organize a City Planning Commission under the provisions of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, Act 247 of July 31, 1968, as amended by Act 93 of 1972.[1]

The Planning Commission shall consist of seven members, all of whom shall be citizens of the City of Pottsville. The term of office of members shall be four years, except that the terms of the members first appointed shall be so fixed that the term of two of the members shall expire one year from the effective date of this article, the term of one member shall expire two years from the effective date, the term of one member shall expire three years from the effective date and the term of one member shall expire four years from the effective date. In the event of vacancies, the governing body shall appoint a member to fill the unexpired term. Members whose terms have expired shall hold office until the successors have been appointed.[1]

The Commission shall have the authority to make and alter rules and regulations for its organization and subsequent procedure consistent with the statutes of this commonwealth and the City ordinances.
The Commission shall perform all of the duties and shall exercise all of the powers now or hereafter conferred upon the Planning Commission under state law and the City ordinances.
