The attached drawing of the new seal shall become
part of this article, and its significant features are meant to be
representative of the following:
A. The oak tree in the background represents the three-hundred-year-old
Penn Oak Tree situate on East Mill Road, Flourtown, which is in the
process of being felled on the date this chapter is enacted.
B. The shield superimposed on the Penn Oak Tree is the
shield of the Penn family.
C. Within the upper half of the shield is a hand representative
of William Penn "treating" with the Indians from whom he "bought"
his land.
D. On the lower left of the shield is a sheaf of wheat
representing the early farming and milling industries.
E. On the lower right of the shield the shovel and pick
represent the early lime and iron-ore quarrying.
F. The date, 1681, is when the "Manor of Springfield"
was created.
G. The rays of the sun in the background of the shield
project a bright future for the Township.
The proper officers of the Township are hereby
authorized to have this Official Township Seal reproduced in such
a fashion as to render it capable of affixment to official documents
of the Township.
The Official Township Seal shall be maintained
in the custody of the Township Secretary, who shall affix this seal
to all duly executed documents of the Township.

the Board of Commissioners voted, at the meeting of April 14, 2004,
to designate the White Oak (Quercus alba) as the official Township
tree]
