There is hereby established the office of Assistant City Attorney in and for the City. There shall be as many Assistant City Attorneys as the Mayor and Council shall authorize, and they shall be appointed by the Mayor and Council. The term of office shall be at will, meaning that the employee may resign or quit at any time, with or without cause, and that the City, by a majority vote of Council, may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause.
The Assistant City Attorneys shall be under the direction and supervision of the City Attorney and shall be responsible to him or her for the faithful performance of duties assigned. During the absence or disability of the City Attorney, one of the Assistant City Attorneys shall assume all the authority and obligations of that office as directed by the Charter.[1]

Special Assistant City Attorneys may be so designated by the City Attorney, if money therefor is budgeted, and for short periods of time.
