It shall be unlawful for any person to park
any vehicle, or leave any obstruction, within 10 feet from any fire
hydrant.
It shall be unlawful for any person in any kind
of vehicle to drive over any fire hose, except where the same is properly
protected and by permission of the Fire Chief.
It shall be unlawful to drive into or park any
vehicle within the block where fire apparatus has stopped in response
to an alarm.
It shall be unlawful for the operation of a
vehicle, other than one on official business, to follow any fire truck
or vehicle carrying any fire apparatus in response to a call or alarm
closer than 500 feet.
The Chief of the Fire Department and his assistants
shall have police authority, and orders given by them must be obeyed
and complied with.
Children under 16 years of age, not accompanied
by their parents or guardians, shall not come within one block of
the scene of fire without the permission of the Chief of the Fire
Department, nor shall children get on any vehicle en route to the
fire.
It shall be unlawful for any person willfully
to offer any resistance or hindrance to any fireman in the discharge
of his duty.
During the progress of any fire, the Chief of
the Fire Department, or in case of his absence or disability the Assistant
Chief, shall have the power to order the removal or destruction of
property necessary to prevent the further spread of fire.

A. Issuance. Prior to burning, call 1-888-WIS-BURN (947-2876) or visit
the website dnr.wi.gov, keyword FIRE, to check the daily burning restrictions.
Permits will be issued by the Department of Natural Resources.
B. Below-ground fire pits. Fire pits shall be below ground level. The
pit shall not exceed 16 square feet and shall be surrounded by a noncombustible
material (i.e., concrete, brick, stone, metal, dirt or sand; grass
is not considered an acceptable barrier). Only clean wood is to be
burned.
C. Aboveground fire pits. Burn clean wood only. The burning chamber
shall not exceed 16 square feet or three feet in height from the ground
level. Shall be manufactured material.
D. Burning containers. Burning containers are to be constructed of metal
and must be covered by a metal screen or netting. The burning container
shall not be larger than a 55-gallon barrel in size.
E. Leaves. No person shall burn leaves on a City street or sidewalk
at any time, and no permit shall be given for the burning of leaves
on a City street or sidewalk.
F. Fire hazard conditions. The Fire and Police Departments shall have
the authority to ban all open burning, except open burning used in
food preparation, when weather conditions are such that open burning
would threaten life and/or property.
G. Penalty. The first time a person(s) is/are informed by the Fire or
Police Department that he/she is in violation of any provision of
this section, he/she will be directed to extinguish the fire. Failure
to comply with the directive shall result in a penalty imposed.
H. Regulations.
(1) All fires listed above shall be no closer than 20 feet to any structure,
including decks, nor closer than 10 feet to any property line.
(2) All fires shall be attended by an adult at all times until they are
extinguished ("adult" means age 16 and older).
(3) The person attending the fire shall have one or more of the following
extinguishing tools: shovel, rake, garden hose, bucket of water, sand
or dirt, or fire extinguisher.
(4) Any person causing property damage due to carelessness or neglect
may be held financially responsible for any costs incurred.
Any person who violates any provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, pay a fine or forfeiture to the City of Gillett in an amount as provided in Chapter
1, Article
II, of this Code, and in default of the payment of such fine or forfeiture, such person shall be imprisoned in the county jail not to exceed five days, unless such fine or forfeiture is sooner paid.
