As used in this chapter, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
ERECT
To build, construct, attach, hang, place, suspend, fix, point,
spray or draw a sign.
SIGN
Includes any device, frame, letter, figure or character,
mark, plane, point, design, picture, stroke, strike, trademark or
reading matter which is used or intended to be used to attract attention
or convey information when the same is placed out of doors in view
of the general public. For the purpose of determining the number of
signs, a sign shall be considered to be a single display, surface
or display device combining elements organized, related and composed
to form a unit. Where matter is formed in a random manner without
organized relationship to elements, or where there is reasonable doubt
as to the relationship of elements, each element shall be considered
to be a single sign.
TRAFFIC SIGN
Includes those signs approved by the Department of Motor
Vehicles, State of New Jersey, for the purpose of controlling the
use of the public streets, highways and walkways. A traffic sign shall
include, but shall not be limited to, traffic directional signs, traffic
signals, railroad-crossing signs, danger signs and such temporary
emergency signs.

A. It shall be unlawful to erect or continue to display
any sign, except those approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles
or the Borough of Runnemede, on any traffic sign. Further, it shall
be unlawful to erect or continue to display about the location of
any traffic signal, any sign in such a manner as to obstruct free
and clear vision or at any location where, by reason of the position,
shape or color, such sign may interfere with or obstruct the view
or be confused with any authorized traffic sign.
B. The posting or placing of a sign of any type, except
for information signs posted by the Borough of Runnemede or its subdivisions,
on any utility poles or any other structures or fixtures in the public
way is hereby prohibited.

Any person, firm or corporation or other party violating any of the provisions of this chapter or failing to comply with any of its requirements shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to the penalty as provided in §
1-15, General penalty, of this Code.
